Can artificial bamboo go outside?

On covered balconies, terraces and courtyards, yes. The constraints are sun and wind rather than cold: unstabilised foliage fades and turns brittle under prolonged direct sun, and tall thin canes catch gusts and topple unless the base is weighted or the canes are fixed to a railing or post. How to choose the right size

Bamboo is bought by height and density rather than canopy spread, which makes it unusually easy to size. Measure the sightline you need to interrupt: roughly 4 ft for a seated view, 5 ft 6 in for a standing one, and 6 to 7 ft to screen a full balcony railing. Then decide density — a few widely spaced canes read as a decorative accent, while a working screen wants canes at roughly 10 to 15 cm centres, which normally means several units side by side. Depth is the other advantage: most bamboo forms need under 30 cm of floor depth, which is why they fit corridors and balconies where a palm never would.
