What is the foliage made of?

Silk fabric, and it is hand-assembled rather than moulded in one piece. That is why the needle pads have irregular edges instead of a repeating moulded outline, and it is the main reason this reads better than a plastic pine at close range.

How does it arrive, and how much shaping does it need?

Branches are compressed for transit and will need opening out. Budget real time for this one - a pine with layered pads takes half an hour of patient bending to get the horizontal planes right, and a tree left unshaped looks like a bottle brush.
