How tall is it, really?

53 cm on options A and B, 65 cm on C and D. The 3 ft figure quoted elsewhere matches neither, so buy on the centimetre dimensions - they arrive with a depth and a width attached, which a bare height never does.

How wide does it spread?

42 cm on the smaller pair, 50 cm on the larger. Depth is the number that catches people out: A and B are only 25 cm front to back while C and D are 45 cm, nearly double, and will overhang a shallow shelf.

Where does this work best?
